SEQ is one of the highest-risk regions in Australia due to a combination of factors: a warm, humid climate that termites thrive in; clay-heavy soils that retain moisture; abundant native and ornamental timber trees; and a large proportion of older timber-framed homes. Species like Coptotermes are highly active throughout the region.
Damp areas that provide soft timber for them to eat
Yes. While termites cannot eat brick or concrete, almost all brick homes in SEQ use internal timber framing, floor joists, roof trusses, and wall plates, all of which are prime termite targets. Termites enter through expansion joints, weep holes, plumbing penetrations, and soil-to-timber contact points. Brick veneer homes are just as vulnerable as weatherboard homes internally.
Termites are very secretive and will often enter a building through areas inaccessible to inspection, via on-ground patios, cracks or expansion joints, or around concrete slab flooring, particularly if the slab edge is obscured by pathways or garden beds.
Don't disturb the area or spray it with household insecticide, just call a professional straight away.
In South East Queensland, termites are responsible for millions of dollars in damage each year. Damage to homes in excess of $70,000 has been found, making being proactive extremely important.
At minimum, once a year. In high-risk areas like the Gold Coast, twice a year is recommended. Our technician will recommend the right option for your property
